Departments and Programs

College of Science

DAUST College of Science provides students with an understanding of the fundamental elements of the various science disciplines.

Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at DAUST prepares students to have broad understanding on the analysis of quantities, magnitudes, forms, and their relationships, using symbolic logic and language. Our students are taught algebra, calculus, functional analysis, geometry, number theory, logic, topology and other mathematical specializations. Courses offered by Math department at DAUST include:

  • Single Variable Calculus
  • Multi Variables Calculus
  • Differential Equations
  • Linear Algebra
  • Statistics and Probability
  • Discrete Math

Physics

The Department of Physics at DAUST prepares students to have broad understanding of matter and energy, and the formulation and testing of the laws governing the behavior of the matter-energy continuum. Our students are taught classical and modern physics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, mechanics, wave properties, nuclear processes, relativity and quantum theory, quantitative methods, and laboratory methods. Courses offered by the Physics department at DAUST include:

  • General Physics I
  • General Physics II
  • Modern Physics
  • Solid State Physics
  • Quantum Mechanics

Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at DAUST prepares students to have broad understanding of the composition and behavior of matter, including its micro- and macro-structure, the processes of chemical change, and the theoretical description and laboratory simulation of these phenomena. Courses offered by the Chemistry department at DAUST include:

  • General Chemistry I
  • General Chemistry II
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Biological Chemistry

Biology

The Biology major provides students with a broad base for understanding principles governing life processes at all levels–molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecological. An evolutionary perspective guides all areas of the curriculum–development, behavior, physiology, genetics, and more. Courses offered by the Biology department at DAUST include:

  • Fundamentals of Biology

Geology

The Department of Geology at DAUST prepares students to have broad understanding on the scientific study of the earth; the forces acting upon it; and the behavior of the solids, liquids and gases comprising it. Our students are taught historical geology, geomorphology, and sedimentology, the chemistry of rocks and soils, stratigraphy, mineralogy, petrology, geostatistics, volcanology, glaciology, geophysical principles, and applications to research and industrial problems.
